Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer for Translation at UN Women Uganda involves supporting the translation of key project documents, specifically a Concept Note and related attachments, from English into Chinese (Mandarin). This role is crucial as the translated documents will be used for official donor engagement and submission purposes. The Concept Note focuses on enhancing the agency, protection, and economic empowerment of adolescent girls and young women in Uganda, aligning with shared priorities on women's empowerment and South-South cooperation. The volunteer will play a significant role in ensuring that the translations accurately reflect the technical content, strategic framing, and UN communication standards of the original documents. This assignment not only contributes to UN Women’s resource mobilization efforts but also provides the volunteer with practical experience in translating donor-facing program documents within a UN and international development context.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Online Volunteer include:

• Translating the Concept Note and related project documents from English into Chinese (Mandarin), ensuring accuracy and clarity in the translations.
• Maintaining consistency in terminology and style throughout the translation process.
• Preserving the original meaning, tone, and technical content of the documents during translation.
• Completing the translation of approximately 40 pages within the assignment period.
• Collaborating with UN Women staff to clarify any ambiguities in the source documents and ensure the final translations meet the required standards.
• Adhering to UN communication standards and guidelines throughout the translation process.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:

• Proficiency in both English and Chinese (Mandarin), with strong translation skills between the two languages.
• Familiarity with UN communication standards and terminology related to gender equality and women's empowerment.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality translations under tight deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• A commitment to the mission and values of UN Women and a passion for promoting gender equality.

Educational Background:
Candidates should ideally have a background in translation, linguistics, international relations, gender studies, or a related field. A degree or certification in translation or a relevant discipline is preferred, although not mandatory for this volunteer position.

Experience:
While prior experience in translation is beneficial, it is not strictly required. However, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the nuances of both languages and the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and accurately. Experience in working with international organizations or in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment will be considered an asset.

Languages:
