Specific duties include: advising the Head of Office on security issues, accompanying staff on field missions, evaluating evacuation routes, ensuring the functionality of emergencycommunication systems, investigating security incidents, preparing security risk management documents, and supporting the integration of security considerations into UN activities. The officer will also manage security-related projects, monitor compliance with security protocols, enhance collaboration with other agencies, and conduct security training for personnel. Additionally, the officer will be responsible for maintaining physical security at OHCHR facilities and ensuring that security measures are effective and efficient.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in security management, with knowledge of military or security specialization. The ability to handle stress effectively in security management situations is essential. A police or military degree is desirable, and completion of a Security Certificate Program (SCP) is required for this position.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in areas such as international relations, conflict resolution, security management, or emergency preparedness. Experience in planning and implementing risk mitigation measures is desirable, as is experience in field operations and conducting security operations for human rights programs. At least three years of experience working with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) is preferred, highlighting the importance of familiarity with UN protocols and procedures in security management.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Arabic is required, with a minimum UN Level II competency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Knowledge of French is desirable, with a minimum UN Level I competency.
