Job Overview:
The Senior Investment Specialist position is a critical role within the Equity Investments Unit (EIU) of the Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD) at ADB. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supervising various components of the investment team and portfolio management functions. This role requires a strong focus on originating new equity investments that align with ADB's development impact and financial objectives. The Senior Investment Specialist will work closely with ADB's sector teams and Resident Missions to execute equity investments, manage due diligence processes, and provide strategic advice on deal structuring and valuation. Additionally, the role involves overseeing key accounts, ensuring compliance with ADB's standards, and monitoring the financial health and development impact of portfolio companies. The position also entails leading initiatives related to governance, risk management, and knowledge sharing with external partners. The Senior Investment Specialist will play a pivotal role in fostering a high-performance culture within the team and will be expected to mentor junior staff members, ensuring their professional growth and development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Investment Specialist will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Origination and Processing: Lead the origination of new equity investments that meet ADB's development and financial goals, execute equity investments as part of the deal team, manage the due diligence process, and provide strategic advice on deal structuring and valuation.
  • Management of Key Accounts: Assume primary responsibility for assigned key accounts, review and approve waivers, amendments, and annual reviews, and represent ADB's interests on the boards of investee companies as needed.
  • Portfolio Management: Oversee the monitoring of portfolio companies' financial health and development impact, ensure compliance with ADB's shareholder agreements and environmental standards, and manage the collection of fees and dividends.
  • Strategy and Planning: Lead and participate in various initiatives and change projects within the organization.
  • Knowledge Center for Governance, Risk Advisory, and Development Impact: Coordinate and expand programs that introduce best practices in corporate governance and risk management at investee companies.
  • External Liaison and Knowledge Sharing: Build relationships with financial intermediaries and institutional investors, analyze market trends, and share insights with stakeholders.
  • Staff Supervision: Create and lead multidisciplinary teams, supervise performance, and provide coaching and mentoring to team members.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Senior Investment Specialist position must possess a Master's Degree or equivalent in Business, Finance, or a related field. Alternatively, a university degree combined with at least 5 years of specialized experience relevant to the position may be considered. A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, or related fields is required, including international work experience across multiple countries. Candidates should have a strong understanding of advanced valuation analysis, equity markets, and risk management, as well as experience in developing markets. Proven leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage diverse teams are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate strong analytical and structuring capabilities, as well as the ability to multitask effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Senior Investment Specialist position includes a Master's Degree or equivalent in Business and/or Finance or relevant fields. A university degree combined with at least 5 years of specialized experience may also be considered acceptable. The emphasis is on candidates who have a strong academic foundation in finance, investment analysis, and related disciplines, which will enable them to perform effectively in this role.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, or related fields. Candidates should have substantial international work experience, demonstrating their ability to navigate complex financial environments and investment landscapes across different countries. Experience in managing investment portfolios, conducting due diligence, and leading negotiations with various stakeholders is essential. Familiarity with distressed assets is considered an advantage, as is experience in developing markets.

Languages:
Proficiency in written and verbal English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of the local language in the Philippines may be beneficial, depending on the specific requirements of the role and the nature of the investments being managed. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and facilitate knowledge sharing.

Additional Notes:
This position is a fixed-term appointment with the option to renew, initially for a period of up to 3 years or until the Normal Retirement Date (NRD), whichever comes first. The role is part of ADB's Workforce Rebalancing Framework (2022-2027), aimed at enhancing in-house expertise. Successful candidates may occasionally undertake short-term assignments in other departments or offices as required.
