Job Overview: The Health Cluster Coordinator plays a critical role in managing and coordinating health responses during emergencies. This position involves overseeing health needs assessments, strategic planning, and resource mobilization efforts to ensure effective health interventions in crisis situations. The coordinator will work closely with various health partners, including governmental and non-governmental organizations, to ensure that health services are delivered efficiently and effectively to affected populations. The role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to navigate complex humanitarian environments, and a commitment to improving health outcomes in emergency settings. The coordinator will also be responsible for capacity building within the health sector and advocating for health priorities in humanitarian agendas.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage and coordinate health cluster activities, ensuring comprehensive health needs assessments are conducted.
Collect and analyze data from health partners to maintain an updated database of health services and interventions.
Collaborate with health cluster members to develop humanitarian needs overviews and response plans.
Ensure compliance with national and international health standards and integrate cross-cutting issues into health responses.
Facilitate training and capacity-building initiatives for health partners to enhance service delivery.
Organize consultative meetings and support missions to ensure effective coordination among stakeholders.
Develop funding strategies and coordinate resource mobilization efforts for health interventions.
Implement monitoring frameworks to evaluate health cluster plans and interventions.
Advocate for health priorities and represent the health cluster in inter-cluster coordination mechanisms. 1
Identify technical gaps and develop training plans to strengthen emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in public health, medicine, international relations, social sciences, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification in emergency management or humanitarian principles is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of health systems and emergency response frameworks, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in high-pressure environments.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master’s level or above) in public health, medicine, international relations, social sciences, or management from an accredited institution is essential. Postgraduate studies or specialized training in emergency management, international aid, or health cluster coordination is highly desirable.
Experience: Candidates should have at least seven years of relevant experience at both national and international levels in emergency and humanitarian relief operations. This includes experience in managing health programs during chronic and acute emergencies. Experience working with WHO, UN agencies, or recognized humanitarian organizations is preferred.
Languages: Expert knowledge of English or French is essential. A working knowledge of another UN official language is desirable, which would enhance communication and collaboration in diverse settings.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to WHO Staff Regulations and may involve mobility to different duty stations. The remuneration package includes an annual base salary starting at USD 84,672, with additional benefits such as annual leave, allowances for dependents, and education grants for children.
