Job Overview: The Operations and logistics-officer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective delivery of logistics and operational activities for the STRIDES project in Zambia. This position is responsible for managing supply chain processes, procurement, and logistics in accordance with FHI 360’s policies. The officer will establish operational frameworks to support project delivery, including managing inventory, purchasing, and fleet operations. Collaboration with various departments is essential to identify needs and streamline processes, ensuring timely and efficient operations. The officer will also be involved in preparedness planning, developing training materials, and mentoring staff to enhance operational capabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Operations and Logistics Officer will implement and maintain FHI 360 Zambia's operational and procurement standards. Key responsibilities include managing the procurement process for office supplies and medical equipment, ensuring compliance with donor policies, and coordinating with finance and program teams for integrated controls. The officer will develop protocols for logistics processes, manage transportation and fleet allocation, and maintain asset registries. Documentation of logistics and procurement activities is critical to adhere to USG compliance and local regulations. The officer will also support the development of logistics plans and budgets, communicate with staff regarding supply orders, and maintain supplier information. Additional duties include managing procurement trackers and performing tasks as delegated by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess in-depth knowledge of operations, procurement, budgeting, and supply chain management best practices. A comprehensive understanding of procurement standards and regulations, particularly those related to USG and international donors, is essential. The ability to negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships is crucial, along with knowledge of security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols for staff and supplies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required, and the candidate must be able to work in challenging environments with minimal infrastructure.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in Supply Chain, Logistics, Economics, Finance, or Business Administration is required. A Master’s degree or other advanced qualifications in business management or logistics is preferred, along with certifications in supply chain management.
Experience: The position typically requires 5-8 years of experience in logistics and operations management, particularly in emergency contexts. Candidates should have demonstrable knowledge of public procurement laws in Zambia and experience with various donor agencies, especially US government entities. Experience in establishing operations in new countries is advantageous, along with proficiency in database management and online search tools. Prior experience in NGOs or government agencies is preferred, with a focus on humanitarian assistance or related fields.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak proficiently. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance to lower-level personnel. The role typically reports to the Project Director of STRIDES Zambia.
