Job Overview: The Rapid Response Officer I will play a crucial role in providing technical support and guidance for the implementation of emergency response activities under the STRengthening Infectious Disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) initiative in Zambia. This position involves overseeing the rapid response teams and ensuring that emergency response activities align with approved workplans. The officer will be responsible for developing training strategies, facilitating capacity-building activities, and creating technical materials. Additionally, the officer will prepare reports for donors, highlighting achievements in emergency response activities, and may coordinate with various in-country organizations to effectively respond to outbreaks. This role requires strong judgment and the ability to navigate complex and rapidly evolving situations in the field.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Rapid Response Officer will oversee the daily implementation of emergency preparedness and response activities, demonstrating strong judgment in developing methods and evaluation criteria for responding to infectious disease threats. Responsibilities include networking with internal and external personnel, providing input on national guidelines for emergency response, assisting in the development of tools and materials, and leading the creation of workplans for emergency response. The officer will coordinate with technical and programmatic teams to ensure compliance with award requirements, contribute to planning and recommendations for STRIDES implementation, and support the preparation of donor reports. Additional duties include gathering data for reports, assisting with technical troubleshooting, and ensuring documentation of services rendered to clients.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree or its international equivalent in Public Health, Emergency Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, or a related field. The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in emergency or rapid outbreak response activities, with a strong emphasis on field-based roles. Documented leadership in implementing global health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security projects focused on emergency preparedness and response is essential. Experience in non-governmental organizations, U.S. government agencies, or private organizations is preferred, particularly with USG-funded contracts.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Emergency Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, or a related field is required. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of emergency response and public health initiatives.
Experience: The position requires at least 4 years of relevant experience in emergency or rapid outbreak response activities. Candidates should have significant field experience and a proven track record of leadership in global health security projects, particularly those focused on emergency preparedness and response. Experience in non-governmental organizations or U.S. government agencies is highly desirable, especially in roles that involve implementing USG-funded contracts.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak proficiently. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory for this position.
