Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the UN Youth Office's communication strategy. Key duties include:
Assisting in the development of visual communications products such as website blogs, press releases, banners, infographics, newsletters, and PowerPoint presentations, ensuring adherence to the office's visual identity and brand guidelines.
Supporting the design, planning, and execution of social media campaigns, which involves monitoring and responding to audience comments and messages.
Creating and managing weekly and monthly editorial calendars for social media content, scheduling posts to maximize engagement.
Tracking social media engagement metrics and analyzing data to identify high-performing content and areas for optimization.
Producing videos and photographs of events organized by the UN Youth Office.
Supporting office meetings, event planning, outreach initiatives, announcements, and other coordination" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">communication coordination activities.
Performing additional duties as required to support the office's mission and objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet specific qualifications to be considered for the internship. These include: (a) Enrollment in or completion of the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). (b) Enrollment in or completion of a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). While professional work experience is not mandatory for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, a field of study related to the internship is essential. Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. Proficiency in social media platforms and scheduling tools, as well as standard software applications in Microsoft Suite (especially MS Word and MS PowerPoint), is required. Familiarity with graphic design tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud is desirable, along with knowledge of video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, or CapCut.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a bachelor's degree or equivalent, as well as being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program (master's or Ph.D.). This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of youth engagement and communication strategies within the UN framework.
Experience: While the UN Internship Programme does not require professional work experience, candidates are expected to have relevant academic experience or coursework related to youth engagement, communication, or social media management. Any experience in youth-related processes or initiatives will be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's suitability for the role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French, another official UN language, is desirable and would be beneficial for communication within the office and with diverse stakeholders.
