The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Special Assistant to the Chief Information Technology Officer. The internship is structured to last for three months, with the possibility of extension based on the needs of the Office. While onsite presence is highly desirable, the organization is open to hybrid or remote work arrangements. Interns will be integrated as full members of the team and will engage in projects that are intended to make a significant impact within the department. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn about the operations of the United Nations and to contribute to various initiatives in Data Analytics, Data Strategy, and Outreach and Communications.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities depending on their area of focus. In Data Analytics, the intern will assist in developing corporate visualization solutions from multiple data sources, support the creation of data models for scorecard analysis, build interactive dashboards and reports, and perform ad-hoc analyses. They will work with tools such as MS Power BI, Tableau, and relational databases like SQL Server. In the Data Strategy area, the intern will support the implementation of the Secretary-General's Data Strategy, coordinate with stakeholders, maintain documentation, and assist in data training activities. For Outreach and Communications, the intern will help coordinate meetings, gather feedback, and support the communication of data strategy initiatives. Overall, the intern will be expected to present results clearly and contribute to the overall mission of the OICT.
Required Qualifications: The internship is open to candidates from a wide range of educational backgrounds. Typically, applicants are pursuing studies in fields such as International Affairs, Information Policy or Law, Information and Data Strategy, Social Sciences, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, Economics, Machine Learning, Data Visualization and Analytics, Web Analytics, Graphic Design, Web Design, User Interface Design, Human-computer Interaction, marketing" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Digital Marketing, or other relevant fields. To qualify for the internship, candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or be in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. No prior work experience is required, but candidates should possess skills and knowledge that will benefit the UN during their internship.
Educational Background: Candidates must meet specific educational requirements to qualify for the internship with the United Nations Internship Programme. This includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or being enrolled in or having completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
