Job Overview: This internship is based in the Public Information Office of the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) in Geneva, Switzerland. The intern will work closely with the Associate Public Information Officer and the Public Information Officer, contributing to outreach activities and developing content for various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and the IIMM website. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in public information and communication within a UN context, allowing the intern to gain insights into the workings of international organizations and the importance of effective communication in promoting human rights and accountability. The intern will be expected to engage in a variety of tasks that enhance their understanding of public information strategies and the role of communication in international law and human rights advocacy.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of duties that include, but are not limited to: developing engaging social media content to promote the IIMM's work; producing videos, infographics, and other visual materials that effectively communicate key messages; writing clear and concise content for social media platforms, the IIMM website, and newsletters; facilitating the translation of texts by liaising with the translation team to ensure timely requests and receipt of translations; taking detailed notes during relevant meetings, including sessions of the Human Rights Council; monitoring relevant news and circulating daily press clippings to keep the team informed of current events related to Myanmar and human rights issues. The intern will report directly to the Public Information Officer and will be expected to collaborate with other team members to achieve the office's communication goals.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. Programme. While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Desirable qualifications include experience in drafting news articles and social media posts in English, as well as experience in designing social media posts using design software and creating short videos or animations with video editing software.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or being enrolled in or having completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
