Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is within the Digital Transformation Team (DTT) of UN Peacekeeping, which is focused on implementing the Strategy for Digital Transformation of UN Peacekeeping (DTS). This strategy aims to leverage technology to enhance the safety and security of peacekeepers and improve the implementation of UN mandates. The intern will work under the supervision of a Programme Management Officer and will be involved in various projects that explore the use of AI and digital tools to optimize peacekeeping operations. The role requires a commitment to a full-time schedule, with interns expected to work five days a week, primarily in-person at the UN headquarters in New York. The internship is unpaid and is expected to last for six months, starting on April 1, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Copilot and AI Enablement: Exploring use cases for Microsoft Copilot, supporting the development of AI assistants for peacekeeping, testing functionalities within Office 365, and contributing to training materials.
  • Research, Analysis, and Knowledge Sharing: Conducting research on low-code/no-code trends, collecting user requirements, and preparing documentation for DTT’s repositories.
  • Programme and Event Support: Assisting in organizing innovation events, preparing technical content for workshops, and tracking project progress. The intern may also be required to carry out additional tasks to support the DTT’s priorities and the implementation of the DTS.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a broad range of educational backgrounds, with a preference for those studying Innovation, IT, or Engineering. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate program, be in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or have graduated with a relevant degree. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate, have a strong interest in the UN's work, and demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Background:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school program or in their final year of a bachelor’s degree program. A degree in fields related to Innovation, IT, or Engineering is advantageous, but not mandatory. The UN values diverse educational backgrounds and encourages applicants from various disciplines to apply.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and possess relevant skills that align with the responsibilities of the internship. Experience in research, analysis, or project support in a related field would be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage, as English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
