Job Overview:
This internship is designed to provide support to the Gender Unit within the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and Peace Operations (DPO) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The intern will engage in a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing the understanding and implementation of gender-related issues in peace and security contexts. The role is flexible, allowing for either full-time or part-time commitment, with a duration of six months. Interns will gain valuable experience in research, project planning, and communication strategies related to women, peace, and security (WPS).

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting research on gender equality and women's roles in peace and security; preparing summary notes from meetings and conferences; providing logistical support for events; assisting in project planning and evaluation; drafting internal and official documents; collating and analyzing data; and contributing to the development of training initiatives and strategic communications products. The intern will also have the opportunity to engage with various stakeholders, including Member States and partner organizations, to promote learning and knowledge management in the field of women, peace, and security.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word and MS PowerPoint, is also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree program, or enrolled in or have completed a master's or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion will be required during the application process. The educational background should ideally be in a field related to gender studies, international relations, political science, or a similar discipline that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic knowledge and skills that pertain to the responsibilities outlined in the job description. This may include coursework, projects, or volunteer experiences that relate to gender issues, peacebuilding, or international relations.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
