Job Overview: The Communications Officer in Dnipro Field Office plays a crucial role in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating advocacy and communication work. This position is vital for ensuring that children's and women's issues are articulated in the public domain, thereby strengthening political will to protect and improve children's lives. The officer will also work to position UNICEF's mission and objectives in Ukraine, enhancing the organization's credibility and brand. The role involves producing communication materials, managing media relations, and conducting monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure effective communication strategies are in place. The officer will be responsible for producing advocacy materials, maintaining media relations, and ensuring that communication strategies align with UNICEF's goals and the evolving situation on the ground.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure timely production of communication products and materials to support the country communication strategy and resource mobilization efforts.
Implement tasks in the communication work plan and strategy, producing advocacy materials such as briefing notes, videos, and articles.
Oversee the qualitative aspects of production, ensuring compliance with standards set out in the Communication Toolkit.
Maintain an up-to-date documentation center for communication materials.
Develop and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets, ensuring effective communication of UNICEF's work.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of media materials and public perception of UNICEF.
Organize special events and activities to promote UNICEF's goals and maintain contact lists of key stakeholders.
Prepare background communication materials for media briefings and visits.
A minimum of two years of practical professional work experience in communication, media, or interactive digital media.
Field work experience and familiarity with emergency situations are preferred.
General knowledge of communication practices and methodologies, as well as current theories in communication research and strategy.
Understanding of global human rights issues, particularly those affecting children and women.
Educational Background: A university degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively communicate and advocate for children's rights and welfare.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of practical professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media. Field work experience, particularly in emergency situations, is highly desirable as it equips the candidate with the necessary skills to navigate challenging environments and effectively communicate UNICEF's mission.
Languages: Fluency in English and Ukrainian is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in diverse contexts and with various stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Dnipro, and the incumbent will be expected to work on-site.
