Job Overview: The IT Associate position is crucial for providing reliable and timely IT services within the UNHCR framework. The role involves working under the supervision of a (Senior) IT Officer and is responsible for the application and infrastructure of UNHCR's standard IT services in the Area of Responsibility (AoR). Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the IT Associate include assisting in on-site needs assessments and the installation and maintenance of UNHCR Telecommunications and IT equipment. The associate will establish IT requirements in field operations, considering the overall IT and Telecom strategy of the region, operational needs, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security constraints. Responsibilities also include installing and configuring UNHCR IT and Telecommunications systems, ensuring that all equipment is in good working condition, maintaining records of installations and repairs, and providing information for asset management records. The associate will monitor and maintain LAN, network servers, printers, and other IT infrastructure, assist in user management, and provide technical training to local IT resources and users. Additionally, the IT Associate will support the identification and management of risks and escalate issues to supervisors when necessary, while performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or two years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Essential qualifications include experience with HF/VHF radio or IT systems, PAMA satellite systems, PABX, Cisco routers, and satellite modems. Hands-on experience with wireless and VoIP systems, electricity, generators, and lightning protection is desirable, as is previous experience in emergencies. The candidate must possess strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office productivity software.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma as a minimum, with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent being preferred. Relevant certifications in Information Technology are also essential for this role, particularly those related to IT systems and telecommunications.
Experience: Candidates must have at least six years of relevant IT experience, which includes providing technical support to colleagues, configuring IT equipment, maintaining LAN networks, and assisting with electrical devices and appliances. Experience in the UN system or similar international organizations is highly valued, as is familiarity with asset management and cybersecurity practices.
Languages: The mandatory language requirement for this position is a solid command of English (B2 level) and Spanish. Knowledge of additional languages is considered a plus, particularly for roles that may involve interaction with local communities or stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as a Local Individual Contractor Agreement (LICA / UNOPS) for a duration of six months, with the possibility of extension based on operational needs, budget, and performance. The position is located in Lima, Peru, and is not remote. Candidates must be legally present in the country at the time of application, recruitment, and appointment.
