Job Overview:
The position of Asociado(a) de Programas at WFP is crucial for the implementation, monitoring, and enhancement of nutritional initiatives aimed at vulnerable populations, particularly those affected by tuberculosis and malnutrition. The role involves providing specialized technical and programmatic support to the Nutrition, Public Health, and Family Agriculture Unit (UNSPAF) in Lima, Peru. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the nutritional component of the food assistance program is implemented in accordance with WFP's policies and national nutrition guidelines. This includes overseeing the integration of nutritional education and support into the food assistance framework, ensuring that beneficiaries receive the necessary guidance to make informed dietary choices. The position also requires collaboration with local stakeholders and health authorities to enhance the effectiveness of nutritional interventions, thereby contributing to the overall health and well-being of the target population.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Asociado(a) de Programas will report to the Senior Program Associate and will have a range of responsibilities including:
  • Providing technical and programmatic support to UNSPAF for the implementation of nutrition interventions, including the food assistance program for tuberculosis patients (PANTBC), rice fortification initiatives, and maternal and child nutrition programs.
  • Coordinating the implementation of the nutritional component of PANTBC with relevant stakeholders such as MIDIS, MINSA, and local health authorities.
  • Supporting the planning, implementation, and monitoring of other nutritional interventions under the Unit's responsibility, ensuring adherence to WFP's technical standards and alignment with national policies.
  • Acting as a technical reference point for UNSPAF, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and providing programmatic support on maternal and child nutrition and rice fortification.
  • Supervising the execution of activities related to the nutritional component of PANTBC, including educational sessions and follow-up visits.
  • Identifying gaps, risks, or bottlenecks in the implementation of nutritional actions and proposing technical and operational improvements.
  • Contributing to the capacity building of health personnel and local teams to ensure sustainability and quality of interventions.
  • Consolidating and analyzing information generated by program assistants and other key actors to support programmatic decision-making.
  • Participating in technical meetings and operational discussions to promote WFP's nutritional approach in maternal and child nutrition and rice fortification initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates are expected to have a secondary school education as a minimum requirement. A university degree in Nutrition is desirable, and postgraduate studies in public health, social program management, or related fields are also preferred. The role requires a strong understanding of nutrition and public health principles, as well as experience in program management and implementation. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders, and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes at least secondary school completion, with a preference for candidates holding a university degree in Nutrition or related fields. Postgraduate qualifications in public health or social program management are considered advantageous and will enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 6 years of general experience in managing nutrition programs, public health initiatives, or social projects. Specific experience of at least 4 years in coordinating technical teams and capacity-building processes is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have experience in designing and implementing educational materials and nutritional guidance strategies, which are critical for the success of the program.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Intermediate proficiency in English is desirable, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and enhance the candidate's ability to engage in global discussions related to nutrition and public health.
