Job Overview: The Registration Assistant position is a critical role within the registration team at UNHCR. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Registration Assistant include conducting registration interviews in accordance with local standard operating procedures (SOPs) and registration standards. The incumbent will respond to queries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR's registration procedures and their rights and entitlements. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records related to individual registration cases is crucial. The Registration Assistant will identify persons with specific needs and ensure timely referrals for protection follow-up as required. Collaboration with protection staff and partners in delivering assistance and programming is essential, including the provision of identity and entitlement documentation. The role also involves acting as an interpreter and translator when needed, referring cases to other units within the office and to implementing partners, and supporting the identification and management of risks impacting objectives in the area of responsibility. The Registration Assistant will perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have training in the basic principles of international protection and prior experience in the registration of vulnerable individuals, including the collection of biodata and biometric data. Knowledge of English at a B2 level is required, and prior experience working with UNHCR PRIMES tools such as BIMS and proGres is considered an asset. Experience in coordinating with other stakeholders is also beneficial. Candidates must be legally present in Peru at the time of application, recruitment, and appointment.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a High School Diploma, with one year of relevant experience. Alternatively, candidates with a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field may also be considered. Fields of education that are relevant include Social Sciences, Statistics, Mathematics, and Information Technology. Certifications in these areas are considered essential for the role.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of relevant experience for candidates with a High School Diploma. For those with a Bachelor's degree or higher, relevant experience may be less than one year. Experience in working with UNHCR proGres software is desirable but not mandatory. The role demands a proactive approach to identifying and managing risks and opportunities impacting the objectives of the registration team.
Languages: Knowledge of English is mandatory, and proficiency in the local language (Spanish) is highly desirable. For international professional and field service jobs, knowledge of the UN working language of the duty station is also required if it is not English. For national professional jobs, knowledge of both English and the local language is essential.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as a Local Individual Contractor Agreement (LICA) for a duration of six months, with the possibility of extension based on operational needs, budget, and performance. The position is not remote and requires the incumbent to work on-site in Lima, Peru.
