Job Overview: The Technical Specialist position is situated within the WHO Health Emergencies (WHE) unit, where the individual will work under the direct supervision of the WHE Lead and the overall guidance of the Head of WHO Country Office (HWCO). The role involves participating in the organization, implementation, and follow-up of activities supported by the WHO Jordan Country Office, including fieldwork. The Technical Specialist will be responsible for reviewing reports and other documents to extract necessary information that supports WHE planning and strategy processes. This position requires undertaking web research and data collection on specific subject areas, organizing data, and managing reports and documents. The Technical Specialist will also assist in drafting, formatting, and editing handouts, brochures, and reports, as well as organizing workshops, meetings, conferences, events, and field visits. The role is integral to supporting ongoing departmental projects, activities, and training workshops, ensuring that WHE activities are tracked and operational requirements are fulfilled.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Technical Specialist include:
Participating in the organization and implementation of activities supported by the WHO Jordan Country Office, including fieldwork.
Reviewing reports and other information documents to extract needed information for WHE planning and strategy processes.
Conducting web research and data collection on specific subject areas relevant to health emergencies.
Organizing data, reports, and managing documents effectively.
Assisting in the development of tools and guidelines that support health emergency responses.
Drafting, formatting, and editing handouts, brochures, and reports to ensure clarity and professionalism.
Organizing workshops, meetings, conferences, events, and field visits, ensuring all logistical aspects are managed.
Participating in and supporting ongoing departmental projects, activities, and training workshops.
Tracking WHE activities and ensuring close follow-up with relevant colleagues to fulfill operational requirements for initiating, implementing, and closing activities.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a set of qualifications that include strong analytical skills, proficiency in data management, and the ability to communicate effectively. Experience: The role requires candidates to have a certain level of experience, ideally in public health or health emergency management. Previous experience working with international organizations, particularly in a UN context, is highly desirable. Candidates should have a proven track record of participating in health-related projects, demonstrating their ability to contribute effectively to team objectives and organizational goals.
Languages: Proficiency in Arabic is mandatory, as it is the official language of Jordan. Additionally, strong English language skills are essential, as English is widely spoken and used in professional settings. Knowledge of other languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication capabilities within diverse teams.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a national UN Volunteer assignment, which means that the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The role offers a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of JOD 1145.08, along with annual and learning leaves, free medical and life insurance, and access to various learning platforms. The living conditions in Amman are generally favorable, with a peaceful environment and a range of amenities available.
