Job Overview:
The Population and Development Analyst will play a crucial role in contributing to the UNFPA Arab States Regional Program (2026-2029). This position focuses on data analysis and policy advocacy related to population change and development. The Analyst will work under the supervision of the Population and Development Advisor and will be responsible for strengthening population data systems and providing evidence-based policy advice. The role involves identifying strategies to enhance UNFPA's work in demographic dividends, population aging, and other emerging trends such as climate change and urbanization. The Analyst will also coordinate with stakeholders in the Arab region to advance the ICPD agenda and integrate demographic change into development frameworks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Population and Development Analyst will undertake various tasks, including:
  • Providing program and technical support by documenting knowledge on population and development trends, contributing to evidence generation and analysis, and strengthening a multidisciplinary approach to population dynamics.
  • Conducting intelligence and research to assess policies addressing demographic dynamics, contributing to demographic resilience reviews, and maintaining a repository of research studies.
  • Building regional partnerships by collaborating with research institutions, civil society, and UN agencies to foster technical cooperation and knowledge sharing.
  • Participating in interagency working groups and relevant meetings to advance the population change agenda.
  • Carrying out additional duties as requested by the Population and Development Advisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment, and a commitment to UNFPA's mission. They should have experience in population and development issues, particularly in the Arab region, and be able to engage with diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in data analysis and knowledge management is essential, along with the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms.

Educational Background:
A master's degree in demography, public health, social sciences, or a related field is required. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in population studies or related disciplines will be given preference. A strong academic background in research methodologies and statistical analysis is also essential.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in population and development, including experience in policy analysis, research, and program implementation. Familiarity with the Arab region's demographic trends and challenges is highly desirable. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs in similar roles will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable. Knowledge of French or other languages relevant to the region would be considered an asset.

This position is based in Cairo, Egypt, which is a family duty station with good living conditions and access to various services. The role is a full-time position, and the selected candidate will receive a Volunteer Living Allowance of USD 2,515.88 per month, along with a one-time entry lump-sum payment of USD 4,00
