The consultant will work closely with local stakeholders, government agencies, and UNDP representatives to ensure that the plans are practical, inclusive, and aligned with national and international standards. Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: conducting a thorough assessment of the current management practices in the Tonle Sap Basin; engaging with local communities and stakeholders to gather input and ensure their needs are reflected in the management plans; developing a comprehensive framework for the Integrated Tonle Sap Basin Management Plans; providing recommendations for policy and regulatory improvements; facilitating workshops and meetings to discuss findings and gather feedback; preparing detailed reports and documentation of the processes and outcomes; ensuring that the plans are sustainable and consider the long-term impacts on the environment and local communities; and collaborating with UNDP and other partners to align the plans with broader development goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, water resource management, or a related field. They should have proven experience in developing management plans or strategies for natural resources, particularly in a basin context. Familiarity with the socio-economic and environmental challenges facing the Tonle Sap Basin is essential. The consultant should also demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: A master's degree or higher in environmental science, water resource management, or a related discipline is required. Additional certifications or training in integrated water resource management or related fields will be considered an asset.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in environmental management, water resource management, or related fields. Experience working in Cambodia or Southeast Asia is highly desirable, as is familiarity with UNDP processes and procedures.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Khmer or other local languages is considered an advantage, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and the contract duration is for 34 days over the specified period. The consultant is expected to work full-time during this assignment, and the position is open to both national and international candidates.
