Job Overview:
The Programme Analyst position at UN Women involves supporting the global data compilations on women's participation in political and public affairs, particularly focusing on the SDG indicator 5.5.1b. The role requires the analyst to assist in the update of data-based knowledge products, disseminate information through web-based portals, and review national legal frameworks related to Temporary Special Measures (TSMs) and Violence Against Women in Politics (VAWP). The analyst will also be responsible for tracking good practices in supporting women's leadership and decision-making, thereby contributing to the overall mission of UN Women to promote gender equality and empower women in political spheres. This position demands a proactive approach to research, data analysis, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective monitoring and reporting on women's political representation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support global data compilation to monitor indicators on women’s political leadership and decision-making, including SDG indicator 5.5.1b. This includes assisting in research and data compilations on women's representation in local government and the implementation of electoral gender quotas.
  • Maintain up-to-date information on the Women in Local Government Website by reviewing national legal frameworks and revising local government country profiles.
  • Track the implementation of Temporary Special Measures, including quotas, by collecting data on legislative changes and summarizing findings.
  • Analyze legislative and policy measures on Violence Against Women in Politics by identifying trends and contributing to global analyses.
  • Update Map-based and other knowledge products on women’s political leadership by preparing data and conducting literature reviews.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in Social or Political Science, Law, Human Rights, or a related field. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. Candidates must possess at least one year of progressively responsible work experience in women's political participation and data analysis. Proficiency in using office software packages and web-based management systems is essential, while experience in reviewing national legal frameworks is desired. International experience is also considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Social or Political Science, Law, or Human Rights. A Bachelor’s degree may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of relevant experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender equality and women's empowerment in political contexts.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of progressively responsible work experience specifically related to women's political participation. Experience in data analysis is mandatory, as the role involves significant data compilation and interpretation. Familiarity with office software packages, spreadsheet and database management, and web-based systems is also required. Experience in reviewing national legal frameworks is preferred, and international experience is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable and would enhance the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and resources.
