Job Overview:
The Driver position is crucial for the successful implementation of the ILO's project aimed at improving electronic waste management in Zambia. The selected candidate will provide reliable and secure driving services to facilitate the movement of project staff and goods, ensuring that all project activities are executed smoothly. The role involves transporting personnel to various project sites, assisting with logistics for workshops and training sessions, and maintaining the assigned vehicle in optimal condition. The Driver will also play a key role in supporting the project’s objectives, which include creating job opportunities for youth, particularly women and persons with disabilities, through training in e-waste management and entrepreneurship. This position requires a proactive individual who can manage driving responsibilities while also contributing to basic office tasks as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide reliable and secure driving services for official purposes to facilitate movement of project staff and/or goods.
  • Drive project personnel to project sites and other planned activity locations for delivery of project programmes.
  • Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate basic immigration and customs formalities.
  • Collect and deliver mail, pouch, documents, and other items to project partners, government ministries, etc.
  • Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles through timely minor repairs and arrange for timely major repairs and checking of oil, tyres, brakes and water levels, car washing, etc. so that the vehicle is always kept clean and in good running condition.
  • Provide inputs to the preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit and other MOSS-compliant equipment, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle; keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities.
  • Responsible for accurately maintaining vehicle logbooks, recording daily trips, to ensure efficient vehicle use and fuel consumption.
  • Ensure that the steps required by ILO rules and regulations and Road Safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security are taken in case of involvement in an accident. 1
  • Outside driving duties, perform basic office-related tasks such as photocopying, filing, data entry, maintaining stores, and delivery/collection of various items. 1
  • Provide logistical support with project workshops, seminars or training as and when required. 1
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess primary education, a valid driver's license, and a solid understanding of driving rules and regulations. Skills in minor vehicle repairs are essential, and completion of a safe driving course will be considered an added advantage. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a high level of driving and vehicle maintenance skills, with a proven ability to keep accurate records of vehicle use and to drive safely in local traffic conditions. Additionally, candidates should have the ability to undertake minor vehicle repairs and possess good knowledge of chauffeur protocol and courtesies, as well as security issues related to driving.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is primary education. Candidates must hold a valid driver's license and have knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Skills in minor vehicle repairs are also necessary, and completion of a safe driving course is advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of work experience as a driver, with a demonstrated safe driving record. Experience working for donor-funded projects in international NGOs or within the UN system is considered an advantage, as it indicates familiarity with the operational standards and expectations of such organizations.

Languages:
Candidates must have an excellent command of English, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Additionally, a working knowledge of a local language of the duty station is required to facilitate effective communication with local stakeholders and project beneficiaries.

Additional Notes:
This position is a fixed-term contract for one year, with the possibility of extension based on various factors such as availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The entry-level salary for this position is K 242,249 (Zambian Kwacha) per year. The selected candidate will be required to commence work no later than 30 March 202
