Job Overview: The Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Venezuelan migrant relocation strategy program, known as Operation Welcome, which addresses the influx of Venezuelan migrants and refugees in Brazil. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating countrywide institutional coordination and will work closely with various stakeholders, including local authorities, partners, and other organizations. The role involves designing, supporting, and monitoring activities related to the social and economic integration of Venezuelan migrants and refugees. The Project Coordinator will assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, ensuring that they align with the overall objectives of IOM and Operation Welcome. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining a focus on the project's goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Coordinator will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities; retrieving, compiling, summarizing, analyzing, and presenting information/data on specific project topics; monitoring the project budget, verifying the availability of funds, obtaining necessary approvals, and updating budget-related information; acting as the focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, which involves extensive liaison with various organizational units and external parties; drafting status reports that identify shortfalls in delivery and suggesting remedial actions; preparing and updating reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other documentation; responding to complex information requests and inquiries; organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions; participating in meetings and conferences; assisting in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, NGOs, donors, and other stakeholders; monitoring the work of implementing partners and reporting non-compliance to the supervisor; providing guidance and training to new or junior staff; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in economics, social sciences, public administration, business management, international relations, law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, along with five years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a university degree in the aforementioned fields with five years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. It is essential that candidates have experience liaising with Brazilian government agencies, national and international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Demonstrated supervisory experience and skills are mandatory, as is experience in project management, particularly in managing social and economic integration, livelihoods, microfinance, or other integration projects with a government or UN agency, or a regional or international organization. Candidates should also have a proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with relevant government counterparts, international organizations, and private sector entities, along with excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as economics, social sciences, public administration, business management, international relations, or law from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Alternatively, a university degree in the same fields with five years of relevant professional experience is acceptable.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have at least five years of relevant professional experience, particularly in roles that involve liaising with government agencies, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Candidates should have demonstrated supervisory experience and skills, as well as experience in project management, especially in areas related to social and economic integration, livelihoods, and microfinance. Proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with various stakeholders is essential, along with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Languages: For this position, fluency in Portuguese and Spanish is required, both oral and written. Working knowledge of English is considered a distinct advantage. IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Brazil will be eligible for consideration. Any offer made to the candidate is contingent upon funding confirmation. The selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months. Appointment will be subject to certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned government, where applicable.
