Job Overview: The graphic designinternship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at the UN SDG Action Campaign is designed to support the communications and advocacy efforts of the Campaign. The intern will work under the supervision of the Communications Specialist and will be responsible for creating visual assets that effectively communicate the Campaign's thematic priorities, which include economic justice, climate justice, gender equality, and sustainable food systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an international organization, contributing to the development of concepts and ideas while learning about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 203
The intern will also engage in outreach and liaison with partners from various constituencies and regions, enhancing their understanding of the UN's mission and operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be expected to deliver on a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: creating visual assets that support the Campaign's communications on thematic priorities; designing PowerPoint presentations, reports, publications, and communications materials in alignment with UN branding guidelines; assisting in the creation of infographics, social media visuals, and branded content for both digital and print materials; supporting the development of multimedia assets for events, including the UN SDG Action Awards ceremony, which involves creating banners, posters, and promotional materials. The intern may also be required to perform other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the organization.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (such as a master’s program or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent); have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in the previous two points) and must start the internship within one year of graduation; or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program. Additionally, proficiency in design software such as Adobe Suite, Canva, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and After Effects is essential. Familiarity with the UN system is considered an asset, as is previous experience in communication design or graphic design.
Educational Background: Applicants must be currently enrolled in a relevant academic program or have recently graduated. This includes those pursuing postgraduate degrees or those in their final year of undergraduate studies. The internship is designed to complement the educational experience of the intern, providing practical skills and insights into the workings of an international organization focused on sustainable development and advocacy.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a background in graphic design or communication design, with proficiency in various design software tools. Previous experience in a similar role or within the UN system is advantageous but not mandatory. The internship is geared towards individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to the Campaign's mission while gaining valuable experience in a multicultural environment.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of one of the other five official languages of the UN (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) would be considered an asset, enhancing the intern's ability to communicate effectively within the diverse context of the UN.
Additional Notes: The internship will provide a monthly stipend in accordance with the UNDP Internship policy. Interns are responsible for their own medical and life insurance, as well as any costs arising from accidents or illness during the internship. The purpose of the internship is to complement the intern's studies, and there is no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
