Job Overview:
The Communications Officer position at WFP in Gaza is designed to support the organization's communication efforts by performing various coordination, administrative, and specialized communications processes. The role involves the creation, planning, and publication of communications content, as well as managing media relations to enhance WFP's visibility and reputation. The officer will also support fundraising activities, which are crucial for the ongoing humanitarian efforts in the region. Given the complex humanitarian crisis in Palestine, exacerbated by recent violence, the role is vital in ensuring that effective communication strategies are in place to reach vulnerable populations and support WFP's mission. The officer will work under the supervision of the Communication Officer and the Head of Communication, contributing to the development and execution of communication campaigns tailored for target audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: providing coordination and administrative support for the development and execution of communication campaigns; monitoring and coordinating materials, schedules, and facilities for special events; supporting editorial planning and production of content for social media; conducting research and preparing reports to inform decision-making; monitoring traditional and social media to report relevant information; preparing content for various platforms to enhance WFP’s activities; managing records and databases related to media contacts; responding to queries and requests for support; liaising with WFP staff and media; and performing any other tasks as required to support the communication efforts of WFP in Gaza.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a completion of secondary school education, with a post-secondary certificate in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field being desirable. Additionally, candidates should have strong organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Familiarity with communication strategies and tools is essential, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. However, a post-secondary certificate in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field is highly desirable and will enhance a candidate's application. This educational background will provide the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively perform the duties associated with the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in the field of Communications. Experience working for the United Nations or a non-governmental organization (NGO) is highly desirable, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational context and challenges faced in humanitarian settings. This level of experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication in a crisis-affected environment.

Languages:
Proficiency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement is essential for effectively engaging with diverse stakeholders and ensuring that communication materials are accessible to the target audience. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.

The position is offered under a Service Contract for a duration of 6 months, with the possibility of renewal.
