Job Overview: The Principal for Advice for Small Businesses (ASB) is a pivotal role within the EBRD, responsible for managing ASB activities specifically in the West Bank and Gaza. This position entails overseeing the development and execution of the annual business plan for the region, ensuring quality assurance in the delivery of ASB services, and managing the entire project lifecycle from conception to evaluation. The Principal will work closely with the Associate Director to design and implement market development strategies, business development initiatives, and outreach activities. The role also emphasizes the importance of fostering a productive work environment that encourages innovation and aligns with the Bank's strategic priorities. The Principal is expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct, serving as a role model for the team and maintaining constructive relationships with various stakeholders, including local businesses, financial institutions, and government entities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Principal will be responsible for several key accountabilities, including contributing to the annual operational plan for the Small Business Initiative (SBI), setting operational targets, and ensuring alignment with the Bank's policies and donor requirements. The role involves leading the local ASB country teams, managing the implementation of priority agendas such as digitalization and green initiatives, and overseeing the donor-funded budget. The Principal will also coordinate stakeholder relations, manage team performance, and ensure effective communication with both internal and external parties. Additionally, the Principal will analyze market trends, generate innovative ideas, and implement visibility activities to enhance the Bank's outreach and impact in the region.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a BA/MA from a recognized institution in international development, finance, economics, or business, along with relevant professional experience in commercial management consultancy, banking, or international financial institutions. A strong understanding of the local business environment, particularly in relation to SMEs, is essential. Candidates should also have expertise in at least one of the SME F&D priority areas, knowledge of business advisory services, and familiarity with donor-funded projects. Strong analytical, people management, and communication skills are crucial for success in this role.
Educational Background: A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field such as international development, finance, economics, or business is required. Equivalent work experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development in their respective fields.
Experience: The ideal candidate will have significant professional experience, preferably in roles related to commercial management consultancy, banking, or donor organizations. Experience in managing program and project budgets, as well as familiarity with the SME and consultancy market, is highly desirable. Candidates should also have a proven track record of working in complex, matrix organizational structures and managing diverse teams in multicultural environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with proficiency in local languages being advantageous. Candidates should possess strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and local languages, as well as experience in drafting project proposals and reports.
Additional Notes: This position is a short-term contract lasting up to 12 months, serving as maternity cover. The role is based in Amman, Jordan, and may require extensive travel within the country and internationally.
