Job Overview: The Enterprise Geospatial Intern position at WWF is designed to provide support to the enterprise geospatial team, which plays a crucial role in leveraging geospatial data and technology to further conservation goals. The intern will work closely with the Global Science team to develop innovative solutions and enhance the geospatial community within WWF. This role involves engaging in various geospatial analyses, assisting with GIS software administration, and contributing to the coordination of the geospatial Community of Practice. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will perform supervised geospatial analyses to support selected projects, which includes tasks such as data preparation, mapping, and basic spatial analysis. They will assist in the administration of GIS software by tracking software licenses, responding to user requests, and providing basic support under the guidance of the Geospatial Engineer. The intern will help coordinate the geospatial Community of Practice by managing meeting logistics, maintaining shared resources, and documenting discussions and outcomes. Additionally, they will contribute to the geospatial community's communications by assisting in the development and circulation of a quarterly newsletter, which involves content compilation, formatting, and distribution. The intern will also support the implementation of the ArcGIS Enterprise environment by organizing data, developing metadata, and documenting data management workflows. Other related duties may be assigned as needed, in alignment with the internship's learning objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently completed an undergraduate or graduate program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Environmental Science, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. A foundational knowledge of GIS concepts and spatial analysis is essential, along with hands-on experience using ArcGIS Pro and/or QGIS through coursework, labs, or projects. Applicants should have a basic understanding of geospatial data types, projections, metadata, and data quality principles. Experience working with tabular data formats such as CSV or Excel and linking them to spatial datasets is also required. Strong organizational and documentation skills are necessary, as well as the ability to follow defined processes and maintain clear records. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are important for contributing to reports and internal communications. The ability to work collaboratively in a team-based, multi-disciplinary environment and take direction from technical leads is essential.
