Job Overview:
The International Soil Management Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the development and implementation of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) soil strategy. This position involves working closely with national governments and FAO country offices to create national policy briefs and regional soil reports that align with RAP's objectives. The specialist will also contribute to the development of regional strategies and action plans, ensuring coherence with both regional and international frameworks. The role requires a strong focus on capacity building, data management, and promoting awareness of soil health issues across the region. The incumbent will be responsible for producing technical content, training materials, and organizing knowledge-sharing events to enhance soil health capacities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the International Soil Management Specialist include: writing national policy briefs in coordination with national government offices; producing regional soil reports and recommendations; leading the development of regional strategies and action plans; contributing to the improvement of the Asia-Pacific Field Interventions Impact Reporting and Monitoring (AP-FIRM) Platform; leading project design and implementation; developing the RAP soil webpage; creating technical content for awareness promotion; producing training materials; providing training on soil health assessment and management; organizing expert talks and webinars; and representing FAO at various meetings and events.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in soil sciences, agriculture, or environmental sciences. They should have relevant professional experience in soil governance, soil health assessment and management, and sustainable land management. Experience in policy analysis, technical report preparation, capacity development, and data management is essential. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree in soil sciences, agriculture, or environmental sciences. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of soil management and its impact on agricultural productivity and environmental health.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1 year of relevant professional experience for category C positions and 5 years for category B positions. This experience should be in areas related to soil governance, soil health assessment and management, or sustainable land management, with a focus on policy analysis and technical reporting.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English is required for this position. Knowledge of additional FAO languages is considered a strong asset, as it enhances communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders across the region.
