Job Overview: The Local Mobiliser will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Periferia Viva Program, which aims to improve living conditions in peripheral territories of Brazil, particularly in the Mauá area. This position requires close collaboration with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams to ensure effective community engagement and participation in project activities. The Local Mobiliser will be responsible for promoting community involvement, organizing meetings and workshops, and ensuring clear communication of project information to residents. The role is vital for fostering a sense of belonging among community members and ensuring that their voices are heard in decision-making processes. The Local Mobiliser will also be tasked with delivering monthly activity reports to the Head of Brazil Office, ensuring that all activities align with the quality expectations of UN-Habitat and its partners.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Local Mobiliser will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: a) Promoting community participation and engagement; b) Organizing and facilitating meetings, workshops, and assemblies for social participation; c) Communicating project information clearly and efficiently to the community; d) Encouraging active community participation in decision-making and project implementation; e) Publicizing the program within the communities; f) Attending project meetings as required; g) Participating in local meetings as requested; h) Ensuring technical activities meet the quality expectations of UN-Habitat and its counterparts; i) Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor; j) Preparing and delivering a Monthly Activity Report in a timely manner. The Local Mobiliser will also be responsible for completing any required training courses, including the BSAFE security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course from UNDSS, during the first month of employment.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a High School diploma or an equivalent qualification, along with two additional years of relevant technical experience beyond the educational requirement. A minimum of four years of experience in social mobilization activities, social work in slums and urban communities, or community organization in Brazil is required. Previous experience working with the United Nations is considered desirable. Candidates should demonstrate good computer skills, particularly in Windows and Office applications, as well as web search engines. Competencies required include professionalism, planning and organization, communication, teamwork, and knowledge management, with a strong emphasis on working in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a High School diploma. However, candidates with additional relevant technical experience may also be considered. The emphasis is on practical experience in social mobilization and community work, particularly in urban settings.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant experience in social mobilization activities, social work in urban communities, or community organization within Brazil. Experience working with the United Nations is a plus, as it demonstrates familiarity with the organization's processes and standards.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with the local community. While English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and Spanish is the working language of the Regional Office, proficiency in Portuguese is crucial for this role.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Brazil and is open only to nationals or external candidates holding a permanent visa in Brazil. The contract is expected to last for six months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funds. The remuneration for this position is based on the SB-2/4 UNDP Brazil Salary Scale.
