Job Overview: The National Consultant for Gender-Sensitive Conflict Analysis will play a crucial role in conducting a comprehensive analysis of the gendered dimensions of the ongoing conflict in Sudan. This position involves working closely with an international consultant to explore how gender norms and dynamics influence the conflict and the roles of women in peacebuilding efforts. The consultant will be responsible for contributing to various stages of the research process, including literature reviews, data collection, and analysis, ensuring that gender perspectives are integrated into peace and recovery initiatives. The ultimate goal of this consultancy is to promote gender equality and women's meaningful participation in line with international resolutions such as UNSCR 1325, ensuring that peacebuilding efforts are inclusive and sustainable.
Duties and Responsibilities: The national consultant will undertake a variety of tasks, including:
Designing gender-sensitive methodologies and research tools aligned with Women, Peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (WPS) principles.
Conducting a comprehensive desk review of relevant Arabic literature and summarizing key reports in English.
Designing questions for Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) while ensuring cultural and political sensitivity.
Defining the scope of primary data collection, ensuring diversity and intersectionality among participants.
Training and supervising FGDs facilitators and KII interviewers on gender-sensitive methodologies and ethical standards.
Collating, cleaning, translating, and consolidating data from FGDs and KIIs into a primary data report.
Producing a mapping report of key actors, analyzing gendered roles, barriers, and opportunities.
Drafting sections of the final Gender-Sensitive Conflict Analysis report and providing substantive input to the international consultant's draft.
Participating in validation workshops and ensuring accurate documentation of discussions. 1
Reviewing the final report and providing comments from a local perspective.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree in gender studies, peace and conflict studies, international development, political science, or a related field. A minimum of five years of professional experience in gender assessments and research is required, along with proven experience in facilitation and familiarity with FGDs techniques. Knowledge of the Women, Peace and Security agenda and UNSCR 1325 is essential, as is familiarity with the humanitarian context in Sudan and the specific challenges faced by women and girls in conflict settings. Strong writing and analytical skills are necessary, as well as knowledge of the political context and key stakeholders in Sudan. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced degree in a relevant field such as gender studies, peace and conflict studies, international development, or political science. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender dynamics in conflict situations and for conducting thorough analyses that inform peacebuilding strategies.
Experience: The consultant should have at least five years of professional experience in gender assessments and research, demonstrating a strong understanding of the gendered impacts of conflict and the roles of women in peacebuilding. Experience in facilitating discussions and conducting qualitative research is also essential, as is familiarity with the Women, Peace and Security agenda and the specific challenges faced by women in conflict and post-conflict settings.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic and excellent English language skills are mandatory for this position. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages is crucial for conducting interviews, facilitating discussions, and producing reports that are accessible to diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The consultancy will be based in Sudan and is expected to last for a period of 30 working days. The consultant will work closely with an international consultant and will be required to adhere to ethical, security, and safeguarding protocols throughout the assignment. The payment schedule is divided into three parts: 30% upon completion of the literature review and inception support, 30% after primary data collection and analysis, and 40% upon final inputs and validation support.
