Job Overview: The Legal Intern position within the Programmes & Projects Team (P&P) at UNDP's Office of Legal Services offers a unique opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in law. Duties and Responsibilities: The Legal Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Assisting in the drafting and reviewing of standard and non-standard legal instruments, agreements, and contracts to support UNDP's and UNCDF's operational and programmatic activities.
Providing support in drafting and reviewing financing agreements with donors.
Conducting legal research on complex issues and drafting legal documents and communications.
Supporting training sessions and knowledge-sharing initiatives to enhance understanding of UNDP's legal frameworks among internal stakeholders.
Providing general support to the P&P Team on ongoing projects, ensuring that all legal aspects are addressed effectively and efficiently.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements: a) Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in law; b) Enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (such as a master’s program or higher) in law or a related subject; c) Enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program in law, undertaking the internship as part of this program; d) Recently graduated with a university degree (a master’s or bachelor’s degree or equivalent) and must start the internship within one year of graduation. Previous experience as a qualified lawyer or legal intern is considered an asset, as is knowledge of the UN system and specifically UNDP.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes enrollment in a law degree program at the undergraduate or postgraduate level. Candidates must demonstrate a strong academic foundation in legal principles and practices, with a focus on international law being particularly beneficial.
