Job Overview: The Head of Editorial position at IOM is a pivotal role that involves leading and inspiring a diverse editorial team responsible for producing daily communication materials for external media. This includes overseeing the creation of news outputs, press briefings, and social media content. The individual in this role will provide strategic direction and editorial leadership, ensuring that IOM's global visibility is elevated through innovative and creative approaches. The position requires collaboration with various departments and offices within IOM, as well as external partners, to effectively communicate IOM's activities and priorities. The Head of Editorial will also serve as a spokesperson at media briefings and during emergencies, representing IOM's mission and values. Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide editorial leadership and strategic direction for a high-performing editorial team producing daily communication materials for IOM external media.
Oversee global awareness campaigns, ensuring creative community engagement and staff digital interaction.
Coordinate, prepare, review, and disseminate public information on IOM’s activities worldwide through high-quality written reports and verbal communication.
Serve as a spokesperson at UN media briefings and during emergencies, representing IOM effectively.
Establish and strengthen relationships with national, regional, and international media to promote IOM's work.
Provide editorial communication guidance and technical support to IOM offices globally.
Liaise with communication departments of partner organizations to enhance IOM's visibility.
Cultivate a culture of empathy, respect, and inclusion within the team.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field with seven years of relevant professional experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with nine years of relevant professional experience.
Experience in international journalism, particularly with international organizations.
Proven experience in leading and managing editorial teams, with a strong track record in strategic decision-making in complex environments.
Previous experience in editing, graphic design, online communications, and social media skills is essential.
Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate teams, foster collaboration, and apply creative problem-solving.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess either a Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field with seven years of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with nine years of relevant professional experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication in an international context and for effectively managing editorial tasks.
Experience: The position requires significant experience in international journalism, particularly in covering international organizations. Candidates should have a proven track record of leading and managing editorial teams, demonstrating strategic decision-making capabilities in fast-paced and complex environments. Experience in editing, graphic design, online communications, and social media is also necessary to fulfill the role's requirements effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, both oral and written. A working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage. The proficiency in required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position is a fixed-term contract for one year, with the possibility of extension. It is classified at the P-4 grade level, indicating a professional vacancy.
