Job Overview: The Electrical Technician position within CERN's High Power Converters (HPC) section involves hands-on work focused on the design, construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of multi-MW power converters and Static Var Compensators. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineers and technicians on significant upgrade activities for the SPS and PS main power converters, which are distributed across several buildings. This role requires a commitment to teamwork and technical excellence, as the systems will undergo substantial upgrades over the next three years. The position is site-based, emphasizing practical skills and collaboration across technical teams.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities for the Electrical Technician position include:
Creating 3D mechanical drawings for new electro-mechanic parts of the SPS and PS main power converters.
Developing electrical circuit diagrams for control and protection circuits.
Producing various technical documentation related to the projects.
Assembling and installing new equipment as part of the upgrade process.
Implementing and testing new control systems for the power converters.
Conducting testing and commissioning of new components both in the laboratory and on-site.
Supervising the work of contractors on the worksite to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess the ability to read and understand electrical schematics and technical drawings. A basic knowledge of power electronics principles is essential, along with exposure to 3D design tools for creating simple mechanical parts. The ideal candidate should demonstrate motivation to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment, showcasing strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to achieving project goals.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a general secondary education diploma. Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should have graduated within the last two years, holding a maximum of two years of professional experience in Electrical/Electronics or a related field. Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in the relevant field of Electrical or Electronics Engineering. This experience should ideally involve practical applications related to power electronics or similar areas, allowing the candidate to effectively contribute to the responsibilities outlined in the job description.
