Job Overview:
The engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Civil Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of urban infrastructure projects in the Izidora neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. This position requires collaboration with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams to ensure the successful execution of the project aimed at improving municipal infrastructure and social housing options. The Civil Engineer will be responsible for analyzing and reviewing urban infrastructure projects, preparing technical reports, and providing guidance to designers and planners. The role emphasizes the importance of sustainable urban development and the application of the New Urban Agenda principles to address urban land conflicts and improve living conditions for vulnerable populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Civil Engineer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: 1) Analyzing and reviewing basic urban infrastructure projects, focusing on geometry and pavement; 2) Preparing detailed reports and technical opinions on these projects; 3) Proposing necessary adjustments to technical drawings to meet quality standards; 4) Providing technical guidance to designers, planners, and engineers involved in the project; 5) Collaborating with team members to prepare essential technical documents; 6) Participating in meetings with the technical team to discuss project progress and challenges; 7) Completing all required training and courses, including the BSAFE security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security course; 8) Ensuring compliance with United Nations security protocols; 9) Evaluating projects for two occupations in the Izidora neighborhood and assisting in the implementation of the project according to specified responsibilities; 10) Delivering various products, including project reviews and technical reports, within set deadlines.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, or have an additional four years of relevant experience beyond the basic requirement. A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is also necessary. Furthermore, candidates should have a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in geometric design, with training in nature-based solutions being desirable. Experience working in informal settlements and previous involvement with the UN System are also advantageous. Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and web search engines, is required, while experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Building Information Modeling (BIM) is preferred.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a postgraduate degree (Lato or stricto sensu) in Civil Engineering or a related field. Alternatively, candidates may qualify with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, supplemented by relevant experience. The emphasis is on advanced knowledge and skills in civil engineering principles, particularly as they relate to urban infrastructure and sustainable development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in the field of geometric design. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in urban infrastructure projects, particularly those that address the needs of informal settlements. Experience within the UN System is considered a valuable asset, as it indicates familiarity with international standards and practices in project management and implementation.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, given the local context of the project. Additionally, working knowledge of English or Spanish is desirable, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, while Spanish is used in the Regional Office.

Additional Notes:
This position is part-time (20%) and is based locally in Brazil. The consultant will receive a total net remuneration of BRL 15,315, distributed across several payments tied to the delivery and approval of specific project outputs. The contract is initially for six months, with the possibility of extension subject to funding availability and performance.
