This position involves conducting research on climate change and recovery priorities, preparing essential documentation such as Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and concept notes, and synthesizing research findings to inform decision-making processes. The volunteer will also maintain databases related to recovery initiatives, assist in preparing progress reports, and contribute to resource mobilization efforts. The role requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including government departments and local forums, to ensure effective coordination and knowledge sharing. The ultimate goal is to enhance the resilience of communities affected by the floods and support the implementation of the Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Framework (4RF).
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including conducting research on climate change and environmental issues relevant to post-flood recovery, supporting the preparation of EOIs and concept notes, and compiling research findings to inform planning and decision-making. The volunteer will maintain and update databases related to recovery initiatives, assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports, and ensure data quality and alignment with reporting requirements. Additionally, the volunteer will support the development of project proposals, contribute to donor briefs, and engage with stakeholders to facilitate coordination and knowledge sharing. The role also involves preparing communication materials for senior officials and supporting the overall administrative tasks of the Provincial Resilient Recovery Unit (RRU).
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise reports. Proficiency in data management and familiarity with monitoring and evaluation frameworks are essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate adaptability, creativity, and professionalism, with a strong commitment to accountability and teamwork. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for effective stakeholder engagement and knowledge sharing. Candidates should also be proficient in using digital platforms for communication and reporting purposes.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, environmental studies, development studies, or a related discipline is required. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the socio-economic context of Pakistan and the challenges faced by communities in the aftermath of natural disasters.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in research, project management, or a related field. Experience working with governmental or non-governmental organizations, particularly in the context of disaster recovery or climate resilience, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) would be advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Urdu or other local languages spoken in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This is a national UNV assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position offers a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of PKR 131,372 per month to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses. The assignment includes life health and permanent disability insurance, health insurance for up to three dependents, and a resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. The role is full-time and requires a commitment to supporting the recovery efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
