Job Overview:
The CSO Intergovernmental Participation Specialist plays a crucial role in facilitating and strengthening civil society participation in the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and other intergovernmental processes. This position involves managing operational aspects related to civil society access and participation, ensuring compliance with UN Women’s rules and regulations. The specialist will work closely with various UN offices and civil society organizations to explore innovative approaches for enhancing CSO engagement in normative frameworks. The role requires a strong understanding of intergovernmental processes related to gender equality and the ability to provide guidance and support to both UN Women staff and civil society stakeholders. The specialist will also oversee the implementation of ICT systems for online registration and manage the overall CSW NGO registration process, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among all parties involved.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage operations and explore innovations for CSW and other intergovernmental/normative processes for civil society access and participation.
  • Serve as a member of the CSW Management team, providing advice and support to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director of the Civil Society Division (CSD) and the CSW Secretariat on operational issues related to civil society participation.
  • Collaborate with the Indico.UN team to develop innovative modalities for improved CSO access and participation.
  • Develop and oversee the workplan for the CSD CSW team/project personnel, ensuring its implementation and monitoring.
  • Participate in review meetings to assess the managerial and operational capacities of implementing partners.
  • Oversee all operations related to civil society access and participation in CSW and ensure compliance with rules and regulations for ECOSOC accredited NGOs.
  • Manage CSO online registration and ICT management, ensuring effective communication and support for NGO representatives.
  • Liaise with UN DESA NGO Branch and UN Indico team for synchronization of accreditation data and secure online registration infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the engagement of women's organizations in relevant intergovernmental processes and manage outreach and knowledge sharing initiatives. 1
  • Serve as the focal point for security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues related to CSW CSO participation, ensuring compliance with security planning procedures. 1
  • Manage knowledge sharing between UN Women/CSW Secretariat and civil society, ensuring effective communication and information dissemination. 1
  • Provide high-quality technical and risk advisory support pertaining to CSO participation in normative processes. 1
  • Represent UN Women in inter-agency meetings and support the Division’s strategic engagement with other UN agencies.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of UN intergovernmental processes related to gender equality and civil society participation modalities.
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in gathering and interpreting data, reaching logical conclusions, and presenting findings.
  • Excellent negotiating skills and the ability to handle confidential information.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in databases, web publishing, Excel, and video-editing software.
  • Experience in managing public-facing websites and using enterprise web content management systems is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Mailchimp campaign software and Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

Educational Background:
At least an advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in political science, international relations, international development, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience at the national or international level in conference management, operations, or logistics is required. Experience working with civil society and international institutions in intergovernmental or normative fora is essential. Familiarity with security and safety services within the UN or large international organizations is also required. Experience in using conference management software, preferably Indico.UN, and managing public-facing websites is desirable. Experience in servicing and monitoring civil society participation in intergovernmental processes is also a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is desirable.
