Job Overview:
The Driver position at IOM involves the operation of IOM vehicles in Legazpi City, ensuring compliance with IOM policies and standards. The incumbent will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of personnel and goods, maintaining the assigned vehicle(s) in good working condition, and ensuring that all driving activities are conducted in a safe and responsible manner. The role requires a commitment to confidentiality and discretion, as well as the ability to navigate local roads effectively. The Driver will also assist with clerical duties as needed, contributing to the overall efficiency of the country office operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Drive assigned IOM office vehicle(s) safely and responsibly.
  • Manage the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s) to ensure roadworthiness, including daily checks of tires, brakes, engine oil, and fan belts.
  • Arrange for minor repairs and ensure that the vehicles are kept clean.
  • Ensure that vehicles undergo regular service intervals and keep records of spare parts and conduct monthly inventory.
  • Identify the most direct and safe routes to destinations.
  • Ensure that IOM vehicles are used only for official business as directed by the supervisor.
  • Prepare daily log sheets and monthly reports summarizing vehicle statistics such as mileage and fuel consumption.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion in discussions involving IOM and its officials.
  • Take appropriate actions to mitigate potential security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security threats to IOM officials and property. 1
  • Meet official personnel at airports and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required. 1
  • Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other communications/items as needed. 1
  • Assist country office staff with simple clerical duties when required. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school degree/certificate with a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience or a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid national driver’s license.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Experience with any UN agency or diplomatic missions is an advantage.
  • Knowledge/experience with UN Security protocols (radio checks, defensive driving) is a plus.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a high school degree or certificate, with a preference for those holding a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A valid national driver’s license is also required for this position.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience, particularly in driving and vehicle maintenance. Experience with UN agencies or diplomatic missions is highly desirable, as is familiarity with UN Security protocols, which may include defensive driving and radio communication skills.

Languages:
Fluency in Filipino (oral and written) is mandatory, along with a working knowledge of English. Desirable qualifications include a working knowledge of the local language of the duty station. Proficiency in IOM’s official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, will be evaluated during the selection process, potentially through written and/or oral assessments.

This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for the Philippines will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations.
