Job Overview:
The Senior Driver position at UNICEF involves providing reliable and safe driving services to the head of office while adhering to the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, and integrity. The role requires excellent knowledge of local driving rules and regulations, ensuring compliance at all times. The Senior Driver will coordinate the work schedules and assignments of other drivers to ensure efficient transport operations for the office. This position is crucial for maintaining the safety and efficiency of transport services within the organization, contributing to the overall mission of UNICEF to protect and promote children's rights.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide reliable and safe driving services for the head of office and other staff as required.
  • Coordinate the work schedules, assignments, and performance of other drivers to ensure efficient transport operations.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles in good working condition, ensuring regular servicing and repairs are conducted as necessary.
  • Document vehicle-related information, including mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance records.
  • Ensure compliance with local driving rules and regulations at all times.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of goods and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a safe driving record and report any incidents or accidents immediately.
  • Provide support in emergency situations, ensuring the safety of passengers and adherence to protocols.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of secondary education.
  • Valid driver’s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
  • Professional driving license issued by a recognized institution in Mozambique is mandatory.
  • Advanced safe driving certificate from a recognized institution in Mozambique is required.
  • Certification of off-road driving is essential.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety protocols.

Educational Background:
The position requires a minimum of secondary education. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and have completed relevant training in safe driving practices. Additional certifications related to vehicle operation and safety are highly desirable.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, demonstrating a safe driving record. Experience in coordinating transport operations and working in a multicultural environment is advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Portuguese is mandatory. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and operational efficiency within the diverse environment of UNICEF.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified at the G-3 level, and candidates should be aware that UNICEF does not offer a relocation package for this post. The successful candidate will be responsible for their own relocation and settlement in Maputo, Mozambique.
