Job Overview: The National UN Youth Volunteer – Project Associate (Environment) will play a vital role in supporting UNDP's initiatives aimed at assessing and addressing the environmental damage caused by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This position involves providing day-to-day assistance to the Environmental Damage Assessment (EDA) team and national partners, focusing on the collection and organization of data related to environmental impacts such as air, water, soil, and biodiversity. The Associate will also be responsible for preparing analytical and communication materials, coordinating meetings and workshops, and contributing to the overall capacity-building efforts of Ukrainian institutions and communities. This role is designed for motivated individuals who possess strong digital and communication skills, and who are eager to promote environmental responsibility and support a green recovery narrative in Ukraine.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National UN Youth Volunteer – Project Associate (Environment) include: assisting in the collection, verification, and organization of information and data on environmental impacts from various sources; maintaining project files and databases; preparing and organizing meetings, workshops, and consultations; assisting in procurement processes and drafting terms of reference for consultants; supporting project teams with travel and logistics; keeping accurate records and filing systems; liaising with national institutions and civil society organizations; preparing regular updates and reports on project progress; developing communication materials to explain environmental reforms; providing translation and interpretation support; participating in capacity-building activities; and contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong commitment to the values and principles of the United Nations, including accountability, professionalism, and adaptability. They should demonstrate creativity, judgment, and decision-making skills, as well as effective planning and organizing abilities. The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach to learning and skill development, particularly in the areas of environmental assessment and project coordination.
Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in environmental science, social sciences, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with relevant coursework or training in environmental policy, sustainable development, or project management will be preferred. A strong understanding of the environmental challenges facing Ukraine, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict, is essential.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some experience in project support, research, or data analysis, preferably in the field of environmental issues or sustainable development. Experience working with governmental or non-governmental organizations, particularly in a volunteer capacity, will be considered an asset. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in Ukrainian and English is mandatory for this position, as the role involves communication with various stakeholders and the preparation of documents in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages will be considered an advantage, particularly if they are relevant to the local context or the communities involved in the project.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time national UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer is responsible for organizing their own accommodation. The contract duration is specified in the vacancy announcement, with the possibility of extensions based on funding availability and performance. The position offers a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of USD 1270 per month, along with a one-time entry lump sum of USD 40
Medical and life insurance coverage is provided for the duration of the assignment. UN Volunteers accrue annual leave at a rate of 2.5 days per month, with provisions for learning leave and sick leave. The role may involve working under hazardous conditions, requiring resilience and adaptability.
