The UN security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Human Security Unit (HSU) is dedicated to mainstreaming human security within the activities of the United Nations. Established to enhance global awareness of human security, the HSU operates with the mission to support the UN system, Member States, and various organizations in addressing multi-layered crises. The Unit has been active for over two decades and is currently focused on expanding political and financial support for the UN Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS).

Job Overview:
The primary function of the individual contractor will be to assist the HSU in maintaining up-to-date donor-related information and enhancing strategic partnerships. This role is crucial in supporting the resource mobilization and outreach strategy led by the HSU, particularly in light of the upcoming reports from the Secretary-General that emphasize the importance of human security. The contractor will work closely with the Chief of the HSU and the Resource Mobilization Officer to implement a region-specific resource mobilization strategy for 2026, ensuring that the HSU can effectively respond to emerging global challenges such as climate change, displacement, and inequalities. The contractor will also be responsible for creating donor-focused content and preparing for high-level donor meetings, which are essential for fostering collaboration and support for the HSU's initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The individual contractor will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Collaborating with the Chief of the HSU and the Resource Mobilization Officer to implement the 2026 resource mobilization and outreach strategy.
  • Maintaining comprehensive and up-to-date donor profiles to facilitate better analysis and management of donor relationships.
  • Monitoring donor information for active and prospective donors through reputable news sources and digital media platforms.
  • Creating engaging donor-focused content for the HSU's website and social media platforms, as well as preparing briefs and materials for donor meetings and outreach events.
  • Assisting in the organization of high-level Member State donor meetings, including special events and field visits, to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in development policy, international relations, political science, history, social sciences, psychology, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have up to 3 years of professional experience, which may include internships. A solid understanding of the human security approach and its application within the United Nations or similar organizations is essential. Familiarity with key global agendas relevant to human security is also required, while experience with the United Nations common system is considered desirable.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as development policy, international relations, political science, history, social sciences, or psychology is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of human security and the operational frameworks of the United Nations.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have up to 3 years of professional experience, which can include internships. This experience should ideally involve working with the human security approach within the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations, national governments, or civil society organizations. A demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of resource mobilization and outreach in a global context is also important.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is considered desirable, as it may enhance communication and collaboration with French-speaking stakeholders.
