DRC Syria adopts an area-based approach to support internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities across various sectors, including Economic Recovery and Resilience, Protection, WASH, Shelter and Infrastructure, and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding. Job Overview: The IT Specialist position at DRC Syria is crucial for the effective configuration, implementation, and maintenance of all IT technologies within the organization. The role emphasizes the efficient setup, maintenance, and administration of DRC's hardware, software, and local networks. The IT Specialist is tasked with ensuring that high-quality IT support and training are accessible to users, while continuously assessing and identifying the most suitable IT solutions to meet the operational needs of DRC in the context of Syria. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to enhancing the overall IT infrastructure to support the organization's humanitarian efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The IT Specialist will be responsible for a variety of technical support functions, including the development and implementation of clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for IT support services tailored to the Syria context, in collaboration with the Regional Office IT team. The specialist will serve as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting IT-related issues, providing both remote and on-site support. Responsibilities also include assessing hardware, software, and networks to ensure standardization and fitness for purpose, overseeing technical relationships with internet service providers and technology vendors, coordinating IT product standardization and budget planning across Syria field offices, leading purchase requests for IT equipment, conducting field visits for IT support and training, and ensuring an effective IT focal point system at the field level. Additionally, the specialist will coordinate asset condition evaluations for donation or disposal, standardize and optimize local networks across offices, monitor network performance, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and bandwidth utilization, troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues, provide technical specifications for IT procurements, ensure centralized backups in compliance with DRC regulations, manage user accounts and permissions, and oversee server operations and administration, including managing Active Directory, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, and related services.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the IT Specialist position must possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant IT experience, with at least 3 years of experience in the NGO sector. Full professional proficiency in English is required, along with strong experience in Microsoft 36
Candidates should also have knowledge of firewalls, NAT, routers, and IP concepts, as well as basic hardware maintenance skills. The ability to work effectively in a challenging environment and adapt to the needs of the organization is essential.
Educational Background: A university Bachelor's degree or a professional degree in information technology is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for the technical responsibilities associated with the role.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant IT experience, with at least 3 years specifically in the NGO sector. This level of experience is crucial for understanding the unique challenges and requirements of working in humanitarian contexts, particularly in relation to IT infrastructure and support.

Additional Notes: The contract for this position is expected to last until 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension based on performance and available funding. The position is classified as Non-Management G2, and the expected start date is as soon as possible.
