Job Overview: The Programme Specialist for EVAW (Ending Violence Against Women) is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing UN Women interventions related to violence against women and girls. This role involves supervising EVAW staff, collaborating with various stakeholders including government officials and civil society, and ensuring successful program implementation. The specialist will design and develop program strategies, manage the implementation of the EVAW program, provide technical assistance and capacity development to partners, and oversee monitoring and reporting of the program. The position requires a strong understanding of gender issues and the ability to manage resources effectively while advocating for women's rights and addressing the challenges faced by women in Malawi.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and develop program strategies in the area of EVAWG, including formulating project proposals and drafting inputs for country strategy documents.
Manage the implementation of the EVAWG program, including finalizing workplans and budgets, ensuring technical implementation, and managing partner reports.
Provide technical assistance and capacity development to project partners, identifying needs and coordinating training initiatives.
Oversee monitoring and reporting of the program, including writing quarterly and donor reports.
Manage financial resources of the EVAW program, including budget management and personnel supervision.
Develop partnerships and resource mobilization strategies, analyzing donor opportunities.
Contribute to inter-agency coordination on EVAW, ensuring alignment with other programs.
Manage advocacy and communication efforts, developing strategies and knowledge management products.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/women's studies, international development, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A project/programme management certification is an added advantage. Candidates should have strong program formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation skills, as well as knowledge of Results Based Management and EVAW.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as social sciences, human rights, gender studies, or international development is required. A first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted. A project/programme management certification would enhance a candidate's profile.
Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience at the national or international level in the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects is required. Technical experience in EVAW is essential, along with experience in leading and coaching staff in international settings. Familiarity with office software and web-based management systems is also necessary, and experience in liaising with government agencies and donors is desirable. Experience within the UN system and with modern web-based ERP systems, particularly Oracle Cloud, is a plus.
Languages: Fluency in English and Chichewa is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not mandatory.
