Job Overview:
The position of Expert to design a business model and roadmap for EV charging stations is crucial for the UNDP Mongolia's project aimed at facilitating a Just Energy Transition in the country. The selected consultant will provide technical support to the project team, which is focused on creating an Integrated National Financing Framework for renewable energy-powered electric vehicle charging stations. This role involves analyzing the current landscape of electric vehicle infrastructure in Mongolia, identifying key stakeholders, and developing a comprehensive business model that promotes the establishment and sustainability of EV charging stations. The consultant will also be responsible for outlining a strategic roadmap that includes timelines, milestones, and necessary resources for implementation. The position requires a deep understanding of renewable energy technologies, electric vehicle markets, and financing mechanisms to ensure the successful transition to a sustainable energy future in Mongolia.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of the current state of electric vehicle infrastructure in Mongolia, including existing charging stations and market demand.
  • Identify and engage with key stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector players, and community organizations, to gather insights and foster collaboration.
  • Develop a comprehensive business model for EV charging stations that outlines revenue streams, operational costs, and potential partnerships.
  • Create a detailed roadmap for the implementation of the business model, including timelines, milestones, and resource requirements.
  • Provide recommendations on financing options and investment strategies to support the establishment of EV charging stations.
  • Prepare and present reports and proposals to the project team and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment with project objectives.
  • Collaborate with the project team to integrate findings into the broader framework of the Just Energy Transition initiative.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of the project, making adjustments as necessary to ensure successful outcomes.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in renewable energy technologies, particularly in the context of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of business model development and strategic planning in the energy sector.
  • Experience working with government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and community organizations in Mongolia or similar contexts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.
  • Familiarity with financing mechanisms and investment strategies related to renewable energy projects.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Additional certifications or training in project management, energy policy, or sustainable development would be advantageous.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on electric vehicle infrastructure, business model development, or related areas. Experience working on international development projects, particularly with UN agencies or similar organizations, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Mongolian is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the consultancy.

Additional Notes:
The initial contract duration is set for 40 working days over a period of 5 months. This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and it is expected to be a full-time engagement during the contract period. The consultant will be required to submit proposals directly through the UNDP supplier portal, and any inquiries for clarification must be made in writing via the portal's messaging functionality.
