Job Overview: The engineer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Civil Engineer will play a crucial role in the Economic Governance for Growth (EGG2) Project, providing technical and logistical support to the project team under the direct supervision of the Project Manager. This position involves ensuring high-quality work and consistency in project implementation. The Civil Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the tendering processes, evaluating bids, and ensuring compliance with technical specifications and regulations. The role requires conducting site visits to various school locations in Sarajevo to monitor construction works, prepare necessary documentation, and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. The Civil Engineer will also collaborate with contractors to develop technical solutions for any issues that arise during construction, ensuring that all work meets the required standards and specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support throughout all stages of tendering processes, including participation in the technical evaluation of bids and verifying compliance with RFQ/ITB requirements.
Assist the project team in evaluating financial proposals and conducting value-for-money assessments, including market research and advising on appropriate unit prices.
Monitor and supervise construction works by conducting site visits to ensure compliance with technical specifications and standards.
Prepare documentation for processing amendments to contracts and analyze unit prices for additional works.
Ensure quality control of construction works and materials, and contribute to the development of technical solutions for on-site issues.
Review requests for additional works and assess their justification, providing recommendations as necessary.
Oversee the handover process of completed works to beneficiaries, ensuring all documentation is finalized and archived according to UNDP procedures.
Perform other duties as required to support the functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications:
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in civil engineering, architecture, or a related field from a recognized university is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the same areas combined with two years of qualifying experience will be considered.
For applicants with a Master’s degree, no professional work experience is required. For those with a Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in civil engineering, architecture, or similar fields is necessary.
Excellent computer skills and the ability to effectively utilize information technologies as tools and resources are essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in civil engineering, architecture, or similar professional fields from a recognized institution. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the aforementioned areas, along with an additional two years of qualifying experience, will be considered in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in civil engineering, architecture, or similar fields for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree. Those with a Master’s degree are not required to have prior work experience. Experience in (re)construction of public buildings and infrastructure, particularly in technical documentation development and construction supervision, is highly desirable. Familiarity with working in complex infrastructure projects and dealing with contractors and local partners is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English and one of the national languages (Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian) is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is part of the UNDP's Economic Governance for Growth (EGG2) Project and involves full-time engagement. The role may require travel to various school locations in Sarajevo, with travel expenses calculated separately according to UNDP rules and regulations.
