Job Overview:
The Communications Associate plays a crucial role in supporting the formulation and implementation of communications and advocacy strategies aimed at increasing the outreach and awareness of UN Women among partners, the media, and the public. Reporting to the Head of Communications, the Associate adopts a client-oriented approach to deliver results and supports activities and special events organized by UN Women. The position involves providing coordination support in communication planning, campaign coordination, and digital content development. The Associate is expected to contribute substantive inputs to advocacy and communication strategies, develop campaign frameworks, and coordinate campaign activities, ensuring strong digital amplification and cross-platform integration. The role requires proficiency in digital content creation tools and the ability to develop social media content aligned with campaign priorities. Additionally, the Associate will manage and expand UN Women’s digital presence, maintain the NCO website, and prepare various advocacy materials. The position also involves facilitating knowledge management and supporting the coordination of communications consultants.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Associate will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: providing coordination support in communication planning and campaign coordination; developing digital content and social media assets; conceptualizing and implementing advocacy campaigns; maintaining digital content calendars; providing guidance on corporate communications guidelines; analyzing social media trends and performance; managing the NCO’s web and social media presence; preparing press releases and advocacy materials; liaising with media; maintaining a library of reference materials; and supporting special web/digital/media projects. The Associate will also contribute to knowledge management by identifying best practices, conducting training on communication practices, and maintaining a structured repository of communication materials. Furthermore, the Associate will coordinate communications consultants, ensuring quality outputs and timely delivery, and will support administrative processes related to consultants.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, journalism, or a relevant field. Candidates must have at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in supporting the formulation and implementation of communications and advocacy strategies. Experience in social media, video recording/editing, graphic design, and digital communications is essential. Proficiency in using computers and office software packages, as well as web-based management systems, is required. Familiarity with modern web-based ERP systems, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable. Candidates should possess strong analytical and organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a solid understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, journalism, or a relevant field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for effective communication and advocacy work within the context of gender equality and women's empowerment.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in communications and advocacy. This experience should include providing support for the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications strategies, as well as experience in social media management, video editing, graphic design, and digital communications. Familiarity with office software packages and web-based management systems is also required, along with experience in handling modern web-based ERP systems being a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Nepali is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable. Proficiency in these languages will enhance communication and collaboration within the diverse environment of UN Women.
