Job Overview: The Technical Advisor for Global Health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security will play a crucial role in managing all activities related to global health security under the EpiC portfolio. This position is primarily focused on enhancing the Government of Nepal's capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to zoonotic disease outbreaks. The advisor will collaborate with various governmental bodies, including the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), the Department of Health Services (DoHS), and the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP), among others. The role requires the implementation of a comprehensive work plan aimed at improving global health security through cross-sectoral collaboration at both national and sub-national levels. The advisor will also be responsible for ensuring that project objectives are met efficiently and effectively, which includes frequent field visits across Nepal to monitor and support project activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Advisor will oversee all technical aspects of the Global Health Security project, working closely with government counterparts and other stakeholders to advance project objectives. Key responsibilities include providing technical assistance for the development and review of contingency plans, standard operating procedures, and clinical protocols related to zoonotic diseases. The advisor will also develop simulation exercises to enhance preparedness for disease outbreaks, assist in data collection and review related to zoonotic diseases, and create training materials on best practices in animal husbandry and biosecurity. Additionally, the advisor will facilitate discussions on simulation exercises and emergency responses, engage with multisectoral government structures to promote the Federal One Health Action Plan, and ensure alignment between EpiC GHS work and other FHI 360 projects. The advisor will also lead the implementation of work plans, collaborate with finance teams for budget tracking, and contribute to program reports and documentation of successes and lessons learned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field, with at least 8 years of experience in animal health or One Health, or a Master’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience. Preferred qualifications include experience in zoonotic diseases, animal husbandry, biosafety, and biosecurity, as well as experience managing donor-funded projects, particularly those funded by the United States Government. Familiarity with the Ministry of Health and Population and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development is desirable. Strong communication and coordination skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively in an IT environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field is required, with a Master’s degree being preferred. The educational background should include relevant coursework or training in zoonotic diseases, public health, or related disciplines that equip the candidate with the necessary knowledge and skills for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have substantial experience in the field of global health security, particularly in relation to zoonotic diseases and animal health. A minimum of 5 years of experience is required for those with a Master’s degree, while those with a Bachelor’s degree should have at least 8 years of relevant experience. Experience in managing projects funded by international donors, especially the United States Government, is highly valued, as is experience working with governmental health departments.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Nepali is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills required for documentation and reporting. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
