The primary aim of this internship is to assist in fulfilling the responsibilities of the Office of the Chief of Staff, which includes ensuring the effective functioning of integrated procedures and systems for information analysis and management across the mission. The intern will play a crucial role in enhancing the mission's strategic and operational planning, particularly in relation to performance monitoring and operational impact assessments. The internship is expected to commence on April 7, 2026, for an initial duration of three months, with the possibility of extension for an additional three months. Interns will gain valuable insights into how the UN plans and monitors the implementation of its mandates, as well as an understanding of information and data management systems within a peacekeeping context.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the mission's planning and performance assessment efforts. Key duties include:
Assisting in the preparations for the Mission’s annual informal consultations with member states, including compiling and presenting data for potential Q&A regarding the Mission’s budget proposal for 2026-202
Collecting data and inputs to address follow-up questions from member states.
Supporting the implementation of UNHQ and Secretary-General’s initiatives by gathering data for the Mission’s contribution to the 9th Global A4P+ monitoring report and inputting data into the A4P+ IT Platform.
Aiding in the implementation of the Comprehensive Planning and Performance Assessment System by clearing backlogs of recommendations and monitoring the implementation of revised impact and outcome indicators.
Collaborating with relevant offices to collect and disaggregate data from the Mission’s programmatic activities, including statistics on community engagement and project participation.
Conducting background research to review guidelines and SOPs, providing potential solutions to the team.
Performing any additional tasks as directed by the Mission Planning Officer.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess a strong understanding of Microsoft Excel, as proficiency in this software is desirable for data management tasks. Additionally, knowledge of project management principles is also considered beneficial for this role. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively is essential, as the intern will be interacting with various stakeholders within the mission.
Educational Background: The internship is open to individuals who are currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program in a relevant field such as international relations, public administration, or a related discipline. Candidates should have a strong academic background and demonstrate a commitment to the values and principles of the United Nations.
Experience: While prior work experience is not mandatory for this internship, any relevant experience in data analysis, project management, or administrative support will be considered an asset.
