Job Overview: The Global Healthsecurity" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (GHS) Technical Advisor – Zoonoses & AMR will play a pivotal role in providing technical leadership and strategic guidance for the STRIDES project in Zambia. This position focuses on enhancing zoonotic and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance in both human and animal populations. The advisor will work closely with government partners to improve integrated disease surveillance and response systems, ensuring alignment with national health security priorities. Responsibilities include project design, budgeting, and administrative support, as well as leading project activities to ensure they are executed according to established work plans. The advisor will also contribute to the development of policies and frameworks that support national health security initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of the Global Health Security Technical Advisor include providing technical expertise in zoonotic disease and AMR surveillance, advising on laboratory improvements, and ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures. The advisor will support the development of surveillance plans, provide training to health laboratories, and facilitate data sharing between sectors. Responsibilities also encompass conducting supportive supervision, monitoring project implementation, and preparing reports for stakeholders. The advisor will engage with government agencies and other partners to advance integrated health security interventions and ensure project activities align with national and global health frameworks. Additionally, the advisor will manage project resources, prepare documentation for funders, and maintain collaborative relationships with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree (master’s degree or higher) in Public Health, Epidemiology, Veterinary Science, or a related field. A bachelor's degree in Human or Veterinary Medicine is also required, along with extensive relevant experience. Additional qualifications or certifications in public health or related areas are advantageous. The role demands strong technical knowledge in zoonotic diseases and AMR, as well as proficiency in project management and implementation.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced degree in Public Health (MPH) or its equivalent, focusing on areas such as Epidemiology, Veterinary Science, or Infectious Diseases. A bachelor's degree in a related field is also necessary, complemented by significant relevant experience in the field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the technical implementation of large public health or animal health projects, particularly those focusing on zoonotic diseases and AMR. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in diagnostics, surveillance, and epidemiology, as well as a background in providing technical assistance and capacity building within the public health domain. Experience in program management within NGOs or government agencies is preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is essential for collaboration with various stakeholders. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not explicitly required.
