Job Overview:
The position of International Individual Consultant is aimed at supporting the establishment of the AfCFTA Private Sector Coordination Platform (PSCP). This role is crucial in facilitating the coordination and collaboration among private sector stakeholders to enhance the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The consultant will work primarily from home but may be required to travel, with travel-related expenses covered by UNDP. The duration of the consultancy is set for 30 working days over a period of three months, with an expected start date immediately after the contract agreement is concluded. The consultant will be responsible for delivering high-quality outputs that align with the objectives of the PSCP, ensuring that the private sector's voice is effectively represented in the AfCFTA processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the International Individual Consultant include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting a comprehensive analysis of the current private sector landscape in relation to the AfCFTA.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders in the private sector to gather insights and feedback on their needs and expectations from the PSCP.
  • Developing a strategic framework for the PSCP that outlines its objectives, governance structure, and operational modalities.
  • Facilitating workshops and meetings with private sector representatives to foster collaboration and consensus-building.
  • Preparing detailed reports and presentations summarizing findings, recommendations, and action plans for the PSCP.
  • Providing ongoing support and guidance to UNDP and stakeholders throughout the establishment process of the PSCP.
  • Ensuring that all activities are aligned with UNDP's policies and procedures, and that they contribute to the overall goals of the AfCFTA.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the position include:
  • A proven track record of working with private sector organizations, particularly in the context of trade and economic development.
  • Strong understanding of the AfCFTA and its implications for private sector stakeholders in Africa.
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating multi-stakeholder consultations and workshops.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in project management and the ability to deliver results within tight deadlines.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of a Master's degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Economics, or a related field. A PhD or equivalent advanced degree is preferred, particularly for candidates with extensive experience in trade policy or private sector development.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5-7 years of relevant professional experience in consulting, trade policy, or private sector development. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of African trade initiatives, is highly desirable. Proven experience in managing complex projects and engaging with high-level stakeholders is also essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UNDP. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Arabic, is considered an asset and would be beneficial for engaging with a broader range of stakeholders across the African continent.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy is structured as a short-term contract with a duration of 30 working days spread over three months. The position is home-based, but travel may be required, with all related expenses covered by UNDP. The consultant will be expected to start immediately after the contract is finalized. This role is open to international candidates, and the compensation will be commensurate with the consultant's experience and qualifications.
