Job Overview: The Humanitarian Mine Action Assistants (NTS/EORE Assistants) will play a crucial role in the implementation of Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) and Non-Technical Survey (NTS) activities under the guidance of a supervisor. This position is vital for ensuring the safety and awareness of communities regarding explosive hazards. The assistants will conduct both direct and online EORE sessions tailored for various age groups, including adults, adolescents, and children, utilizing approved methodologies. They will also be responsible for gathering evidence of contamination through document analysis, interviews, focus group discussions, and visual observations. The role requires meticulous documentation of EORE/NTS activities and data management, as well as collaboration with other DRC sectors to ensure a cohesive approach to humanitarian efforts. The assistants will engage with community members to facilitate information exchange and support needs assessments, contributing to the overall mission of DRC in enhancing community safety and resilience.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Humanitarian Mine Action Assistants include: conducting direct and online EORE sessions for various age groups using standard methodologies; distributing EORE informational materials as directed; implementing NTS processes by collecting evidence of contamination through document analysis, interviews, focus group discussions, and visual observations; accurately completing EORE/NTS documentation and uploading data into the information management system; participating in the development of activity workplans and adhering to them; liaising with DRC Humanitarian Demining, Victim Assistance, and other sectors to ensure an integrated approach; facilitating information exchange with community members and supporting community needs assessments; and assisting with procurement efforts as needed, including the development of required documentation.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for this position, candidates must possess the following qualifications: completed higher education; at least 1 year of practical experience in a relevant field, preferably within an NGO context; experience working with diverse communities, including children and adolescents; strong verbal communication skills; high attention to detail; and basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to DRC's core competencies, including striving for excellence, collaborating effectively, taking initiative, communicating transparently, and upholding integrity.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed higher education, which is a fundamental requirement for this position. This educational background should ideally be complemented by relevant training or certifications in Non-Technical Survey and/or Explosive Ordnance Risk Education, as well as any additional training that enhances the candidate's ability to perform the duties associated with this role.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 1 year of practical experience in a relevant field, with a preference for experience gained in a non-governmental organization (NGO) setting. This experience should include working with diverse communities and engaging with individuals of various age groups, particularly children and adolescents, to ensure effective communication and education regarding explosive hazards.
Languages: Fluency in the Ukrainian language is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for conducting EORE sessions and engaging with community members. Basic English language skills are also required to facilitate communication and documentation processes. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This recruitment is for three positions based in Shostka and Sumy, and candidates are encouraged to indicate their preferred location in their application.
