Job Overview:
The Officer, Private Fundraising Communications is a key position within the Marketing & Mobilization (M&M) team, which is part of the External Relations (ER) department. This role is crucial for securing support for the IRC’s most ambitious initiatives by translating complex program strategies into clear and compelling communications. The Officer will work closely with various teams, including the Strategy Unit and program teams, to develop high-quality proposals, reports, and pitch materials that effectively communicate the impact of the IRC’s work. The ideal candidate will be a skilled storyteller and strategic thinker, capable of crafting persuasive narratives that highlight the effectiveness and urgency of the IRC’s mission. This position plays a vital role in mobilizing private resources to enhance the IRC’s impact and improve the lives of those affected by conflict and disaster.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Officer will be responsible for a range of duties including: serving as the primary writer for Impact at Scale collateral such as proposals, reports, pitch decks, one-pagers, and brochures aimed at Foundations, Trusts, Corporations, and High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI). They will produce sophisticated and persuasive proposals that position the IRC as a leading humanitarian organization. The Officer will translate technical program content into accessible narratives that demonstrate the IRC’s innovations and evidence-based approaches. They will also develop comprehensive donor reports that showcase the outcomes and impact of IRC programs, leveraging qualitative and quantitative data to communicate effectively. Additionally, the Officer will manage the proposal and report development processes, ensuring high-quality written products across a diverse funding portfolio, and collaborate with various teams to align priorities and messaging.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 5 years of experience in professional writing, fundraising communications, grant writing, or related fields. They should demonstrate the ability to translate complex content into compelling materials suitable for donors. Exceptional writing and editing skills are essential, along with a portfolio that showcases persuasive storytelling and strong narrative structure. A strong understanding of humanitarian or international development contexts is preferred, as well as experience collaborating with program specialists and subject-matter experts. The ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and familiarity with using data and human-interest storytelling in fundraising communications are also required.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, international relations, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas may be preferred but are not mandatory. Candidates should have a strong foundation in writing and communication principles, as well as an understanding of the nonprofit sector and fundraising strategies.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in professional writing, fundraising communications, or grant writing. Candidates should have a proven track record of developing successful donor communications and a deep understanding of the fundraising landscape, particularly in the context of humanitarian work.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as the role requires exceptional writing and communication skills. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the IRC’s areas of operation, is considered a plus but not required.

Additional Notes:
This position may allow for remote work or a hybrid remote/office environment. Occasional travel may be necessary. The compensation for this role ranges from $80,000 to $85,000, based on various factors including the labor market, job type, and individual candidate experience.
