The organization is currently responding to one of the most complex humanitarian crises in the world, exacerbated by ongoing violence and displacement since April 2023, which has left over 30 million people in need of humanitarian assistance and around 25 million facing acute food insecurity.
Job Overview: The IRC is seeking a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) Specialist for an upcoming project funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). This project aims to enhance the wellbeing of survivors of GBV and CRSV and their families while reducing the incidence of GBV and CRSV in targeted states. The specialist will provide technical guidance on protection assistance and risk management to the HOPE-S project team, ensuring compliance with technical standards and IRC best practices. The role involves implementing and coordinating all GBV and CRSV interventions across the consortium, promoting knowledge sharing and capacity building. The specialist will also contribute to developing operational plans and monitoring project delivery against targets, fostering a learning environment within the consortium and with other partners.
Duties and Responsibilities: The GBV & CRSV Specialist will be responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership on GBV and CRSV across the HOPE-S project, ensuring alignment with FCDO priorities and global standards. Key responsibilities include:
Providing technical support on GBV and CRSV risk mitigation, response, and social norms change components.
Leading adaptive programming and learning, utilizing data and contextual analysis to refine approaches.
Promoting integrated service delivery mechanisms and referral pathways for safe access to services.
Disseminating survivor-centered approaches and supporting survivor-led mechanisms.
Integrating GBV and CRSV considerations into emergency response and resilience programming.
Overseeing risk management and safeguarding integration across interventions.
Strengthening accountability to affected populations through feedback mechanisms.
Engaging in GBV sub-coordination" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">cluster coordination and advocating for GBV/CRSV priorities.
Mobilizing engagement with women’s rights organizations and ensuring localization commitments are met. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Human Rights, Protection, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in GBV/CRSV programming in humanitarian settings is required, with a preference for experience in complex, conflict-affected contexts, particularly in Sudan. Proven experience in providing strategic technical leadership within multi-sectoral and multi-partner programs is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to design and lead adaptive programming, integrating GBV risk mitigation across sectors, and have a strong track record in capacity strengthening and partnership management, especially with women-led organizations. Familiarity with accountability to affected populations and safeguarding principles is also necessary.
Educational Background: An advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Human Rights, or Protection is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of GBV and CRSV in humanitarian contexts and for providing effective leadership and technical guidance in these areas.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in GBV/CRSV programming within humanitarian settings. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in complex, conflict-affected contexts, with a strong preference for those who have worked in Sudan or similar environments. Proven ability to provide strategic technical leadership on GBV/CRSV within multi-sectoral and multi-partner programs is essential, along with experience in adaptive programming and capacity strengthening.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, with Arabic being strongly preferred. Proficiency in these languages is critical for effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, partners, and government actors.
